Scio Township welcomes mobile Food Truck vendors to our community!

Mobile food trucks are commercial kitchens on wheels with most of the same requirements in the Fire Code as a brick-and-mortar restaurant. For the protection of workers, customers, and firefighters, it is important to make sure they are operating safely.

Mobile Food Service Unit (MFSU), "Food Truck", Permitting Process

The process to operate as a Food Truck in Scio Township (and other participating communities), is the following:

  1. Register with IROL (Inspection Reports OnLine - requires liability & vehicle insurance documentation)

  2. Pass a Washtenaw County Mobile Food Truck Consortium Inspection.

    Participating Communities

To operate as a Mobile Food Service Unit (MFSU) in the following communities, you must have a current Washtenaw County Mobile Food Truck Consortium Inspection and a valid State of Michigan Health Department License. Individual communities may have other requirements or fees. Food truck vendors are welcome to reach out to their local contact and schedule a one-on-one inspection.
  3. Obtain a Scio Township Peddlers Permit

  4. Possess a valid State of Michigan Health Department License

Once you've successfully completed this process, your permit will be valid until April 1st of the following year, when your Health Department License also expires.

The permit must be displayed in a location that is visible from the front of the MFSU.
