Outdoor Warning Siren System

Washtenaw County operates an Outdoor Warning Siren System activated in the event of severe weather, hazardous material spill, or attack on the government. Sirens are tested at 12:00 noon on the first Saturday of the month from March through October. If severe weather is possible on the afternoon of a test, it may be delayed until the following month.

Medication Disposal

Discarded or flushed medications pollute our rivers, waterways, and groundwater. In addition, many children are accidentally poisoned each year by items found in the home. Studies show that individuals who illegally use prescription drugs often obtain them from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In order to protect our families and the environment, please ensure that medications are properly handled, stored, and disposed!

Prescription, over-the-counter, and controlled substances can be safely disposed at the Scio Township Sheriff Community Station, next to the Zeeb Road Fire Station. Medical sharps can safely be disposed at the Washtenaw County Home Toxics Center located at 705 N Zeeb Road, and at other Medication Disposal Locations in Washtenaw County.
