If you are a resident who is moving out of the Township or if you are a new incoming resident to Scio Township, the procedure for obtaining a final read on the water meter or establishing an account with the Utility Department is the same. Simply call the Utility Billing Office, 734-369-9350 and let the office know if you are moving out or coming in as a new resident. You will then be asked to send an email to the department at an address provided. You will be instructed to provide the following required information: the name on the account, the property address, the last (or first) day you will legally be responsible for the utility bill, a forwarding address (for those moving out), and a contact telephone number. It is the policy of the department that all changes to an account (e.g. billing address changes, name of responsible party, or any detail of importance pertaining to the account) be provided in writing. Email is acceptable. Always remember to keep the Utility Department informed with all changes regarding your water and sewer account. If you do not have access to email, you may come in to the office and give us the information in person.
How Do I Pay My Water and Sewer Bill?
The water and sewer bills may be paid in person at the Township Hall at 827 N. Zeeb Road, or online. In-person payments may be made in cash, check, money order or credit card. If you wish to mail your payment to the Township Hall, please pay by check or money order. It is not recommended to send cash through the mail or drop box. You may also pay your bills online via credit card or electronic check. Simply access your accountand follow the prompts to pay online. The associated fee for credit card payments is 3.15%; for electronic check $2.15 per transaction.
If I Leave A Forwarding Address With The Post Office, Why Does My Utility Bill Not Forward?
Utility bills DO NOT FORWARD. We use an envelope that directs the Post Office to return the mail to us with any address that they may have in their system. This is often the only chance the Utility Department has of locating where a resident may have gone. Please do not rely on the mail to have your bill forwarded. Please contact the Utility Department and arrange for the address to be changed on the account. This would also pertain to leaving your residence for a substantial period of time. If you are going out of town for more than a week or two, please contact the utility department. We will change the address on your account to wherever you would like for the time you are away. Or we will help you determine how much money you would like to post to your account as a credit to pay your bill before you return. Just remember to contact us to change it back when you return. This is especially important for “Snow Birds”. It is easy to forget that the address on the bill may not be the address at the residence.
What Is the Billing Cycle for Water and Sewer Bills?
Water and sewer bills are billed quarterly. When your account is established, it will begin with the exact date you are responsible for the account. If the date lies somewhere within the quarter, your first bill will be prorated to the number of days that you are in the quarter. All other bills are for a full three-month period. When you leave the Township as a resident, your final bill will also be prorated to reflect the number of days in your final billing period.
