Gelman Sciences Dioxane Contamination

Beginning in the 1960s, Gelman Sciences, Inc. contaminated the environment on its site with 1,4-dioxane, a component of its manufacturing process. The Gelman site is located in Scio Township and in 2026 was added to the National Priorities List of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), commonly known as a Superfund Site.

Residents who wish to have their residential drinking-water wells tested for the presence of 1,4-dioxane at their own expense are encouraged to contact one of these companies.
