Homeowner Resources

For home improvements

In Scio Township, any improvements to your home that require a building permit from the  Washtenaw County Building Department also require a zoning compliance permit from the Township.  This includes accessory structures (sheds, garages, barns, swimming pools); decks and patios; roof- and ground-mounted solar installations; building additions and interior renovations; and generator installation.  Zoning compliance approval is also required for home occupations and in-home daycare uses.

Zoning compliance approval is required PRIOR to submitting a building permit application with the Washtenaw County Building Department.

Information to apply for a zoning compliance permit is provided in the links below.  Zoning compliance applications are reviewed internally and are typically completed within 7-10 business days.
