Approved rates for Solid Waste, Recycling, and Yard Waste Services

For easy access, it is advisable to set up an online account for billing and payments. Priority Waste charges a fee to use a credit card to pay for service.  To avoid the fee, you may pay via electronic transfer/ACH.  See the Priority Waste website for details at https://www.prioritywaste.com/online-bill-pay/  or send a check to Priority Waste, 45000 River Ridge Dr, Suite 200, Clinton Township, MI 48038.

1. When ordering new service, advise Priority Waste that you reside in Scio Township (not Ann Arbor or Dexter). Request information to set up your online account.

2. A discount of 5% is available for those over 65 and for documented disabled veterans. To receive the discount, send a copy of your driver's license or proof of disabled veteran's documents to billing@prioritywaste.com.

3. "Back Door" service is available for those unable to wheel waste and recycling carts to the curb. Contact Priority Waste to arrange this service, which incurs an additional charge.

4. First-time customers (meaning that service has not previously been established at the address) are provided wheeled trash and recycling carts by Priority Waste. These carts become the property of the resident. Residents are responsible for providing their own yard waste receptacles, which may include yard waste paper bags or a bin clearly labeled YARD WASTE. Yard waste stickers are available at Township Hall.

Cart Rules

• Place carts at curbside well before pickups, which may begin as early as 6 am. (Contact Priority Waste Customer Service at (855) 927-8365 if back door pick up is required.)
• Separate carts by several feet to allow the mechanical arms of the truck to pick up each cart and deposit the contents into the truck.
• Place carts facing the street or roadway. 
• One truck picks up trash and a second truck picks up recycling. (A third truck picks up yard waste from April 1 through December 15.) Priority Waste is prohibited from placing both trash and recycling in one truck.  As a result, trash and recycling and yard waste will be picked up at different times on a resident’s scheduled day.
• In the event that Priority Waste damages a cart(s), Priority Waste shall be responsible for their replacement at Priority Waste's expense within three (3) business days. To make this request, complete the Trash and Recycling Form at sciotownshipmi.gov/waste. 

Yard Waste is collected April 1 through December 15.

Pick up your free YARD WASTE sticker at the front desk in Township Hall. Use yard waste paper bags purchased from your local store or pick up your free YARD WASTE sticker to apply to another receptacle. 

Acceptable yard waste includes

• Lawn debris such as grass clippings, weeds, leaves, small twigs
• Prunings, shrub clippings, garden waste materials and fruit, old potting soil, Halloween pumpkins, dirt incidental to minor plantings or edging of lawns
• Brush, branches, tree trimmings, shrub clippings (must be tied and bundled, with dirt removed from root systems)
• Tree branches or logs no greater than three inches in diameter and no longer than four feet in length must be must be bundled no larger than eighteen inches in diameter or in paper yard waste bags.

Bulky Items and White Goods

Some larger items may be picked up under the contract once per month.

Bulky items include

• fixtures and furniture such as toilets, tubs, and sinks
• storm doors and windows, shelving, furnaces 
• bicycles, bed frames, exercise equipment
• grills, metal, lawn mowers, wheelbarrows
• ladders, carpeting and pads
• fence posts or fences not exceeding 3’ x 4’ 
• small quantities of building debris resulting from repair or remodeling personally done by the home occupant, which have been placed at the curb properly tied or bundled in lengths of not more than five feet.

White goods include residential appliances such as water heaters, water softeners, water tanks, washers, dryers, stoves, air conditioners, refrigerators and freezers.
